This year the Renault Knysna Hill Climb, being held for the third time in the scenic surrounds of the dense Knysna forests, went bigger than ever before, drawing the crowds with a petrol headed fun filled Knysna Speed Week.
The Hill Climb itself however, remains the main event, which this year saw restricted entries to 80 competitors as organisers were forced to balance participant numbers with available time as well as keeping strict control of the event proceedings for the safety of both participants and spectators alike.
The distinctive brand, Nissan, was by far the most delineated in the field of competitors, with a total of 18% of the lineup being Nissan vehicles. These included an extensively modified Nissan 200SX, as well as a great assortment of old and new Nissan Skyline GT-Rs, most sporting significantly tuned systems. There were also no less than four Nissan R35 GT-Rs at the Hill Climb weekend which proved to be the ultimate cars to beat for glory.
By the end of the Hill Climb on Sunday, Wilhelm Baard in his characteristic bright-green Nissan R35 GT-R had convincingly won the day. Driven bravely with an ample amount of skill, the car ran the roughly 2km circuit in an extraordinary 42.444 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 161.152 km/h from a standing start and over a tight and fairly twisty circuit - a time which is going to be very difficult to beat in years to come.
